A very easy read that provides insight into 2 young women who have a unique perspective on the current situations in the African American community. This book provides many interesting historical facts that I didn't know about. Having lived in both Philadelphia and Japan, I truly appreciated many of these articles. The text is written in English and Japanese and photos compliment the articles. It is a great read for those interested in the history as well as those studying English or Japanese.

Reversing disease and saving the planet with a plant based diet. People are attacking their connection to God/The Source/Nature™ and most people don't realize it because they are being manipulated in a very diabolical way. I use the term God/The Source/Nature to refer to the intelligent order that permeates every animate and inanimate thing, in and attempt to encompass all views that recognize this order in life in one way or another. People have been directed away from truly being in tune with God, The Source, or nature, depending how you view this intelligent order, because people have been turned away from protecting and living in harmony with the earth. The earth's ecosystem and everything in it have developed out of this intelligent order and is a representation of it. People are manipulated by big business which develops industry that undermines this intelligent order, and the life sustaining patterns of energy within the earth's ecosystem and their own bodies. This manipulation removes people from their connection to God/The Source/Nature and they unwittingly become pillagers of the earth, instead of protectors of the earth that was established by God/The Source Nature. The attack on the connection to God/The Source/Nature is two pronged and involves attacking the intelligent order within the body, and attacking the intelligent order that protects the health of the earth's ecosystem. The attack is diabolical because it is orchestrated through the body, which is the temple of the intelligent order. People are manipulated through marketing and advertising which creates an insatiable dependency on meat-centered diets that support the proliferation of chronic disease like cancer and that corrupt the temple and connection to God/The Source/Nature. As the body is being attacked by disease which causes physical, mental, and emotional illness and disconnectedness, people's actions are more easily influenced by impatience, anger, and a general selfishness which undermines the ability to carry oneself in a holistic god-like manner. Instead of carrying oneself in a god-like manner, many then seek the grace of God/The Source/Nature to raise them to the position they should be in, when that is ultimately their responsibility. These processes result in the depletion of fresh water and droughts, erosion of land, deforestation, depletion of fossil fuel, killing of 9-10 billion animals a year in the U.S. alone to supply the need of meat-centered diets, increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and destructive climate change that will limit the ecosystem's ability to support life on earth. The situation is so dire that the United Nations prepared a report citing the current rate of meat production as unsustainable and recommends the adoption of a whole food plant based diet, or close to it, will be necessary to reverse disease in the body and ecosystem and to save our planet. My hope is to encourage people to return to a diet and way of life that supports the synergy created by God/The Source/Nature™ so that we can save ourselves and all existing life on this planet.

Aqiyl Aniys is a health activist who obtained a Certificate in Plant Based Nutrition from Cornell University, a BA in Organizational Behavior and Communications from NYU, worked as an elementary school teacher, and studied social work at NYU. Aqiyl Aniys's life and health was drastically changed with his adoption of a plant-based diet. He was changed from a slowly decaying forty-something year old, to a nearing fifty year old with the body, vitality, and mental clarity of a twenty year old. This offered new-found focus and dedication to the spreading of the benefits of a plant-based diet, not only for our mental, emotional, and physical health, but also for the health of earth. I've lost 3 inches off my tummy

I answered a social media post to be part of the Tea Cleanse test panel in March, and I was pretty skeptical. The author didn’t give me any payment (or even provide the tea), but by day 3 I was hooked! I lost 5 pounds in 3 days (and 10 pounds overall). But that wasn’t even the biggest change:

--My belly got noticeably flatter in just the first few days (even my husband noticed by day 3)
--I had way more energy (no more 3 pm slump!)
--I never felt hungry, even though I was skipping breakfast
--I started sleeping better

To do this cleanse, you basically drink 5 cups of tea a day, make one tea-based smoothie, and have a normal dinner. What was most fun for me was exploring the different kinds of teas, all of which have specific weight-loss properties, according to studies the author cites. Plus, having herbal tea at night really cut my cravings for dessert.

I’m not “cleansing” any more but this book has changed the way I feel and look. I’m still down in weight (14 pounds now after 21 days), I’ve lost 3 inches off my tummy, and most important of all, I feel great! I’m more energetic and I feel much less stressed than I have in years. Even though this book is marketed as a 7-day plan, it’s really a lifestyle change.

I'm stunned...

Nine days ago I started drinking black, green, white, blueberry (I couldn't find barberry or bilberry), and rooibos tea. I already eat mostly clean, whole foods. I just can't give up bread and pasta. I make my own flatbreads and I use rice or quinoa pasta. I didn't follow this cleanse as the book says, but I did notice I lost a pound per day until I had pasta for dinner, three nights in a row. I lost no weight at all. So I switched it up and now I only eat carbs and fruits early in the day and just drink tea all day long and have meat or eggs and veggies for dinner and I'm still losing weight incredibility fast. I've been eating breakfast, a smoothie from the book for lunch, and a small dinner no later than 7:00 pm. I'm 45 years old, perimenopausal, and gained about 25 pounds over the last 3 years and nothing I've tried has helped me lose any weight at all, in fact I just kept gaining. No more! I can't believe I've already lost 9 pounds in 10 days!!! My clothes fit better and I feel so comfortable. My gut feels better, my digestion has improved, my mood has improved, and I'm ecstatic over the change in how I look. There is no doubt in my mind that it is from the tea. I was an avid coffee drinker, I thought I would miss my coffee and mourn it like a lost friend, but I don't even miss it at all. I know for the rest of my life I will be an avid tea drinker. I lost 8 pounds on the plan in 7 days!

I was not a big tea drinker, but gave the plan a try because I wanted to lose some weight and kick my addiction to diet soda, which I had read makes you crave sweets even more and is full of nasty chemicals. In the past I found that drinking coffee all the time affected my sleep patterns, so I thought maybe tea would be better. It really was. I have never before been able to give up diet soda without massive headaches, but on this plan it was no big deal at all. I actually felt better and clearer mentally, rather than worse.

I lost 8 pounds on the plan in 7 days, as part of the original test panel. I was never hungry or really craving specific junk foods, and I never got a headache. Most of the time I was occupied with preparing and drinking tea and the smoothies, so I didn't feel like I was waiting to eat something. The only problem I did experience was that I became a little bit dehydrated by about the third day. It takes me about half an hour to brew and drink a 10 oz cup of tea vs. about 5 minutes to open and guzzle a 20 oz diet coke, so my fluid consumption went down until I realized this and made an effort to drink more water.

I don't have a blender at work, but I found that making the smoothies at home in the morning and carrying them in a big travel mug was pretty easy. I also don't really cook, so I was intimidated by the recipes, but I ended up just eating foods that followed the principles of the plan, like a broiled chicken breast and a salad or vegetable, rather than making the exact specific recipes. I was able to stick close enough to the plan to lose the weight without learning the specific recipes or even figuring out where to find the ingredients in the grocery store.

This is a plan that anyone can follow, and assuming you have some weight to lose, you will lose it.

This book teaches us a very important formula in life, showing gratitude gives us something we can’t imagine and I think successful people sacrifice the small, avoidable distractions to ensure that more important work gets done, on time, every time. They have identified time leaks and have effectively plugged them to ensure they get most out of every minute. You can train yourself to see the opportunity cost of each minute in the day. The time you would have spent building assets shouldn’t be spent going over pointless social media, obsessive email checking or plain old social gossip sessions.

Cultivating a daily practice of gratitude can and will change your life forever.

I am a big believer in the powerful practice of daily gratitude. Why? I have seen how it can change one's life firsthand by altering your mindset thereby affecting the actions you take in life. This is why I think everyone should at least try it and potentially get on the growing bandwagon called gratitude. In the end, I know gratitude is a daily habit that improves all aspects of health.
