Not what I expected

Based on the reviews I was expecting a better book. I got the impression this was written by a young author. For instance, all of the characters spend a lot of time 'giggling', which was really annoying as I don't know any women who actually giggle. The irony was that at one point one of the characters actually thinks that 'business women don't giggle'. Also all of the characters speak the same way, there's a lot of 'holy s***, holy crap, geez, and wow's' going on. There's not a lot of substance here, the characters meet, fall in love instantaneously and are both too sweet for words, but they don't discuss the accident or its effect on Jodi, even though these are things that a couple would actually talk about. Then at the 80% mark we have the standard break up over the usual near-end misunderstanding that's then easily glossed over. I kept hoping it would get better, because it had potential, but it never got there. I can't recommend it, this one was too immature for my tastes.

I have read a book that made me feel the way this one did. I cried so hard with Jodi and Sam in the last chapter. When I finally got to the epilogue I was grinning from ear to ear. I hope you continue to bring us stories like this! It was my firsttime reading your work. But you now have a loyal fan

A novel rich in plot and in characters.

This is a great debut novel. It's lead characters are computer geek, Sam Werstler and Jodi Price, a musician. Both Jodi and Sam excel in their careers and are strong somen with supportive friends and family. Sam and Jodi have friends in common and meet when Sam is 'dragged' to see Jodi's band play at a Pride Celebration. When Sam and Jodi meet at an after concert party, the two loners are drawn to each other. Lynn does a good job of showing the pain that can be caused by both emotional and external scars. Jodi has been in a horrible car accident where, after being struck by a drunk driver, she almost died. The accident took her singing voice, and left her with some terrible scars. Sam was dumped by her ex with a cruel note, after the ex had cheated and lied. What the two women find together is very special, but to find happiness, they both must trust, and get past their scars.

Author/chef Bryan Rylee has lived, tasted ethnic foods and cooked meals with the Basque people of Spain and France, the Mediterranean coast, Turkey, North Africa, Scotland, Northern England, the Caribbean, Iceland and other places - expanding his culinary repertoire. It was the diverse ethnic selection of food in San Francisco, China Town in particular, that gave him his love of food and his curiosity for other cultures, a curiosity he shares so well in this fine book. Now he approaches the delicacies of Persian cuisine, making them accessible to all of us!

In his Introduction Bryan states, ‘Persian cuisine is varied, ancient, and multicultural. Many cultures in the Greek, Mediterranean, and Asian regions have been influenced by and have themselves influenced Persian cuisine. The borrowed flavors and recipes from India have influenced Persian food, and there are many dishes that are shared by both Turks and Iranians. I should know, because I grew up with Persian cooking on my mother’s side. The symphony of flavors from the specially prepared meats to the delicious, aromatic spices that remind me of home, are all found in this book. I wanted to find a way to introduce the world to the cooking that I found fulfilling and comforting as a child, but I knew that most wouldn’t want to spend the traditional amount of time my mother spent over the stove all those years ago…. A balance of vegetables, fruits, herbs, poultry, seeds, petals and blossoms from roses are seen as a fair diet that could strengthen the mind and body in Persian cuisine.
