About the Author From my teenage years, all I wanted to do was become a writer one day. Even now as an adult woman with a partner and three children who are not so little anymore, I've always lived with my head in the clouds, a dreamer, often amusing myself with my own imagination. It might have taken me awhile to finally live my dream, but I did it. I hope to one day be good enough to join the many talented writers out there who have kept me entertained with their wonderful stories over the years. I live in a sleepy country town in Tasmania, Australia with my partner and three children plus our 6 cats, dog, sheep and cattle. I've had to overcome many emotional obstacles along the way to get to this point and attempting to self publish a book does tend to make a person feel like they've thrown themselves in at the deep end of the pool. Here's hoping some of you actually like what I write and save me from drowning in the deep end as I probably forgot to mention, I can't swim. J. A Melville.

Loved Eric's POV

I'd read Natasha's Awakening and enjoyed it. Sure there's a lot of sex in that book and this one and although this book is basically the same story but just from Eric's point of view, I still enjoyed it. In fact I loved it, even more than Natasha's side of the story. Eric's every bit the alpha male but he's got a sensitive side and he's another one of these rich men who carries things from his past that influence the man he is today. I found his point of view gave more insight to the man. It was written well and worded as if from a man's viewpoint, more basic language. It had some humour, I shed some tears but over all it gave me what I wanted, a hot and sexy read. It's a long book again of course but this one or Natasha's Awakening could actually be read first as they're stand alone novels. Really enjoyed this story from his point of view but there is a lot of sex which might not appeal to everyone. Fortunately I loved it. It was smokin' hot.

I was given this book by author for honest review. Told from CEO Eric Rothman point of view when he takes his PA Natasha Barrington on a trip away to get each other out of their systems. It doesn’t work as expected. Eric has trouble admitting his feelings out loud and believes himself to be unworthy of love. In the course of their relationship his insecurities lead to much misunderstanding and difficulties for them both. This book has super hot sexy scenes and ex-girlfriend stalker drama.

David Emory Shi is a professor of history and the president emeritus of Furman University. He is the author of several books on American cultural history, including the award-winning The Simple Life: Plain Living and High Thinking in American Culture and Facing Facts: Realism in American Thought and Culture, 1850–1920.

Holly Mayer is associate professor of history, Chair of the History Department, and Director of the Historical Studies Graduate Program at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Holly’s Ph.D. is from the College of William and Mary. Her research field is late eighteenth-century America, and she is especially interested in civil-military relations during the War for Independence and the evolution of American character and culture. Her monograph , Belonging to the Army: Camp Followers and Community during the American Revolution (1996) is a path-breaking study of the Continental Army as a community.

Nonstop read.

I'm an old guy--75--retired professor of English, who actually remembers the Manson Helter-Skelter stuff when it was permeating the culture, but if you want to read this excellent book as a primer on Mansonism you will miss the point. I read it nonstop during an eight-hour car trip from having seen my family (including my daughter, of course), and the portrait of this Anna rang completely true to me. Well, true in the way Holden Caulfield rings true to me . . . Ms. Umminger's book is loaded with threads of family and American culture, and she is an author who knows how not to leave them lying around loose. The characters are memorable, the family relationships instantly recognizable, and the prose . . . well, as my professional academic work was primarily in contemporary poetry, I must say the prose is nowhere "prosaic." Smart, often funny, but always just right. I said I read it nonstop, didn't I? . . .

American Girls is a book that leaves the reader wrestling with and thinking about several challenging ideas. Anna, the main character, is complex and sometimes not even likable, but it is fascinating to watch her grapple with questions of why the Manson girls and their looks get more attention than the victims and how to love the maddeningly imperfect people in your life. Umminger is constantly forcing Anna (and the reader) to look at the people she encounters, whether it's members of the Hollywood B-club, the Manson girls, her family, LA, or herself and somehow make sense of all their internal and external contradictions. The book is definitely edgy and dark at times - the nature of the subject matter is not always easy (everything from the Manson murders to her sister's dysfunction), but it's not sensationalized - it is there to be examined in all its tragedy and complexity. The author's writing style provided several opportunities to stop and just appreciate how she had turned a phrase, and there were times that I had to stop reading To work through my own thoughts and feelings mom an incredibly messy question about people or culture that Anna falls into almost stumblingly and is able to ask but not really answer. A book that will be appreciated best by older teens and adults who enjoy YA literature.

Having read some of the lower ratings here, these are my thoughts:

Umminger assumes intelligence in her reader - that we make the connections that are deeper than a 15 year old mind could understand, that we know about Manson. This was not a book about Manson or the girls; it was about the effect of the murders - both how much and how little. It made the point that we live in a world so dark that even something so horrific had a minimal impact in the long run. That we don't live in a world much different than the one that facilitated that cult.

It's a book about choices and their outcomes and how we live with or live up to the consequences. How we can see a little into our future or a parallel and stop ourselves from becoming something we can't live with.

I loved Anna. Her voice was so genuinely a 15 year old. All the characters read very real, for better or worse. As I said on Twitter, it read like water - I just glided through the story and was completely pulled along.

Russell A. Barkley, PhD, ABPP, ABCN, is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Barkley has published numerous books and more than 260 scientific articles and book chapters on ADHD, executive functioning, and childhood defiance. He is also the editor of the newsletter The ADHD Report. Dr. Barkley is well known for his pioneering research on ADHD in both children and adults. His rating scales are based on more than 16 years of research using prototypes of the scales, and are normed on large samples representative of the U.S. population. An Essential Tool for Therapists

As a therapist and coach focused on individuals with Asperger's, autism and ADHD, I find that understanding the topic of Executive Function is central to helping clients make real progress. Russell Barkley, a leader in the field of ADHD and a pioneer in taking a scientific approach to the condition, has put together the most comprehensive and useful self assessment scales in his book Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale (BDEFS).

I find myself giving this assessment to almost all my adult clients. With Barkley's thorough analysis of different aspects of executive functioning, and comparative normed charts, individuals are able to understand just how severe their own deficits might be. With this information, we're able to come up with solid treatment options utilizing each client's own particular profile of strengths and weaknesses.

The Real American Wilkes-Barre

The Wilkes-Barre Attack in the Two Knights is one of the most complicated and devasting counter attacks in the open game. Yakov Estrin was a leading Russian writer on the Two Knights as well as other systems. In 1977, he wrote a book on the Wilkes-Barre called the Traxler Attack for Chess Enterprises. Traxler was a European who had played maybe 5 or 6 games with the opening. Kenneth Williams was a brilliant correspondence player with the Wilkes-Barre Chess Club who along with other members of that chess club did a tremendous amount of work on the opening in the 1930's that was published in Chess Review. Estrin's name change infuriated him and he proceeded to destroy the first edition of Estrin's book with his analysis, so much so that the 2nd edition (if there was one) was renamed the Wilkes Barre. The book is in algebraic, the typesetting is horrible but the analysis is absolutely brilliant. Williams was a Correspondence master of the first rank whose business interests did not give him time to play over the board. Great content but rotten typesetting!

That I know of, there are but 2 books on the Wilkes Barre. This one and the one by Estrin. This one mentions Estrin's book and picks some good and bad points made by Estrin. Having not read Estrin's book, I don't know but this book will bring surprise and horror to your opponent's faces.

About the Author
K. Douglas Hoffman earned his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Kentucky and his bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University. He has been formally recognized for teaching excellence and has served as past education coordinator for the Services Marketing Special Interest Group of the American Marketing Association. Dr. Hoffman currently is a professor of marketing and has taught such courses as Principles of Marketing, Services Marketing, E-Marketing, Retail Management, and Marketing Management. His primary teaching and research passion is services marketing. He launched the first services marketing classes at Mississippi State University, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Colorado State University. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Hoffman was actively involved in his family-owned golf course business, served as a distribution analyst for Volkswagen of America, and worked as a research analyst for the Parker Hannifin Corp. His current research and consulting activities are primarily in the areas of customer service/satisfaction and services marketing education. Dr. Hoffman has coauthored two other South-Western/Thomson Learning texts: Essentials of Services Marketing and Managing Services Marketing, both with John E. G. Bateson.

Bateson previously served as Group Chief Executive Officer of SHL Group and was a Senior Vice-President and Practice Leader with Gemini Consulting in the Gemini Group. He has also taught as Associate Professor of Marketing at the London Business School in England, and was a visiting associate professor at the Stanford Business School. Prior to teaching, he was a brand manager with Lever Brothers and a marketing manager with Philips. Dr. Bateson holds an undergraduate degree from Imperial College, London, a master's degree from London Business School, and a Ph. D. in marketing from the Harvard Business School. He has published extensively in the services marketing literature, including in the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Retailing, Marketing Science, and the Journal of Consumer Research. He is also the author of Managing Services marketing: Text and Readings (Dryden) and Marketing Public Transit: A Strategic Approach (Praeger). Dr. Bateson was actively involved with the formation of the services division of the American Marketing Association, where he served on the Services Council for four years and has chaired sessions of the AMA Services Marketing Conference. He also served on the steering committee of the Marketing Science Institute.

Tired of Apps? Get Out Your Pencil and Use This!

Research shows that those who journal their food intake just four days per week lose more weight than those who don't. If you're tired of all the fancy apps that are a pain to use and just want to use a pencil and paper, this is for you. It has space for journaling as well as a surprisingly comprehensive list of foods and their nutritional content. I have bought several of these.

BEST DIET BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!

I love this little book! It's everything you need to keep track of the calories you consume, plus tips on eating healthy and it's very easy to use. I recommend using the calorie counter book in conjunction with this to make it easier to keep track of the food you're eating. I lost 10 lbs in about 1 1/2 months just by using this journal. At first, it's a little time consuming, but once I got the hang of of it it became a contest w myself to try and stay under 1500 cal. per day. This book I orde for a family member because I already have my own. Buy it, use it, and lose weight, you'll see.

Pretty Good

I like it. It is tiny-about 4"x6"-which could be a problem if you have difficulty reading small print. For my purpose, the size is a plus because it easily fits in my purse and I'm more likely to keep up with it if it can fit in whatever bag I'm carrying. I'm using this for Weight Watchers, so I'm tracking points instead of calories, but it still has adequate space for what I need. I like that it includes a water tracker, since that's an important part of Weight Watchers. My only real complaint with this journal, and the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is that the weeks are pre-labeled Monday-Sunday, whereas I typically track Sunday-Saturday as my "week". I would like it better if the days of the week were not already filled in. Overall, though, I think less than $4 is a good price for 10 weeks of tracking space, and I will probably buy it again.
